During history, spices (like the turmeric) were used for healing and flavor to food too.
This one spice stands out from the rest. It soothes arthritis, diabetes, cancer, heart issues, psoriasis and Alzheimer’s.
The turmeric can be consumed, but it also goes in supplement form.
Here is all you need to know about it.
Traditional use for health
This spice comes from the family Curcuma longa, tropical native plant of India.
It was used as cure for centuries back in the Ayurveda even 5000 years ago.
And it was found as residue to cooking pots in Asian parts 4,500 years ago.
It is used for curry powder and many meals in Asian culture.
Usually it is used dry, but the root is consumed like ginger too. It has many uses and it improves digestion, gallstones problems, arthritis, allergy and cold.

Also, it is used for healing wounds and skin issues and many beauty purposes too.
The creams and soaps with turmeric are really popular nowadays, and the paste is applied on skin of a new couple in some weddings in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan both for beauty and good luck.
Turmeric and curcuma relation
A lot of sites and even some medical ones, improperly advertise the meanings and uses of turmeric, and curcuma. Also, the curry is misplaced in such articles too.
We can clear that up.
The curry is mix of various spices and includes turmeric. The turmeric has a bunch compounds each one special.
But of all of them, the curcuma is the most useful and healing one. Curcuma is different than turmeric and you can find it also in ginger, another medicinal spice.
A lot of sites give false information regarding this confusion.
Just a few offer relevant comments that this spice was used as cure for more than 600 issues.
The many studies were only focused on curcuma and not the turmeric.
According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health there are not a lot evidence for the turmeric healing per se since just a few relevant studies were made.
This is because curcuma is isolated and treated like drug and not a spice!
Big companies do not want to spend fortunes on examining kitchen spices that would bring them no profit.
Proof of the turmeric benefit
We have seen many curcuma studies and almost every health issue can be soothed with this.
The benefits that are proven are Alzheimer’s soothing, arthritis, depression, diabetes and heart attack prevention.
And turmeric, why is good?

It is potent and reduces all of the above negative signs. Also it is antiviral and antibacterial.

So, this is a perfect cure for brain issues that are degenerative, and also Parkinson’s, trauma injury and strokes.
Turmeric for arthritis
This and other inflammation issues are really common. More than $650 million are spent in USA for natural cures of inflammation.
Turmeric solves this and the arthritis too when used for topical aim.
The Arthritis Foundation said turmeric makes long term benefit for people with osteoarthritis.
The best dose for this is pill of 400-600 mg daily, or 0.5-1 g turmeric root, 3 g tops daily.
Turmeric for cancer
It kills tumor cells and leaves the healthy ones. It is better than radiation and chemo and has no side effects.

Turmeric for depression. Better than Prozac
This is better than antidepressants like the fluoxetine or Prozac.
It lessens the stress hormone cortisol and increases serotonin – for happiness.
This is good for those battling this disease and use pills for curing it. And, no side effects.
Also you can mix it with other natural cures like St. John’s Wort and others.
Enhance the turmeric naturally
Sadly, the curcuma is not absorbed as it should most of the times. With the right steps, you can keep it best in the belly and intestines.
And also absorb it more by mixing it with black pepper or curry powder.
The piperine in the black pepper is best when cooked with oil.
In Indian cuisine they use peanut, coconut and sesame oil for such recipes and butter ghee.
This tea can be made daily and with or without supplements along.
Boil it for 10 min and this makes the curcuma better up to 12 times more.
Okinawa people live the longest since they have this tea, and their life span is 81.2 years.
To make the tea, put ½ tsp turmeric powder in 1 cup water and boil it.
Strain and serve.
If you like this, you are one of the few since it is bitter.
But, I have a tasty and healthy recipe all in one.
It can heal you and you can add coconut oil or bran fat.
- ½ cup water
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ cup coconut milk
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- Honey or stevia
Boil the water and add the turmeric for 10 minutes to simmer. Add the coconut milk and oil and heat to make it warm.
Add the honey in the end.
Replace with almond milk or coconut milk if you like, but it has to have fat. The ghee is indian type of butter that is replacing coconut oil great.
Dose for turmeric
Mostly in the West, turmeric is dry and in the spices aisle in markets. But, you might get the root too from other shops. It is like ginger similar looking.
The Maryland University department for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Guide stated the best doses:
- Cut root – 1.5-3 g daily
- Dry powder root- 1-3 g daily
- Fluid extract- 1:1, 30-90 drops daily
- Tincture- 1:2, 15-30 drops daily 4 times
These are the best average doses, or for supplement 400-600 mg daily even up to 3 times.
Ask for 95% curcuminoids items with piperine too and read all the labels.

As spice, it is safe do not worry. But, sometimes pills can make kidney stones.
These pills also have other side effects and warnings.
Curcuma and turmeric we said are not the same, and their side effects would not be the same too but are considered same from Drugs.com, RXlist.com and even National Institutes of Health, MedLine.

Final notes on the turmeric benefits
This spice is healing and is also used in tradition medicine.
You can find such capsules and pills, but the natural version I the best.
Also, expect some side effects from supplements, but in cooking with natural turmeric it is all safe.
Opt for tea and food and then pills if you have to.
If even the supplements are not working, also try curcuma supplements.
